Weird Files in Google Drive

You may notice some strange new documents located in your Google Drive.  You didn't put them there, but there's all these Word documents and PDFs with pictures of Earth and strange formatting that you didn't create.

Have I been hacked? Should I delete them? I opened one, should I not have?

First, you don't need to worry.  These files have been placed there by security software that has been installed on your device.  Normally these files are hidden on your PC, so you would never notice them, but Google Drive doesn't understand "hidden files" and, ergo, you may see them as "recent files" when you open Google Docs.

The purpose of these files is for the security software to monitor them for any changes, such as macro viruses and ransomware.  If changes are detected, the security software will lock down your computer thinking something malicious has infected it.

For that reason, I suggest you leave the files alone.  Over time Google won't "recommend" the files to you as you'll never touch them, and they'll remain in a folder that you won't normally see on your computer.
