Extensions are a great way to extend the functionality of the browser (Chrome) or extend the functionality of specific (or many) websites. Many of you, for example, have found great extensions to extend the functionality of Google Meet. But these extensions are (typically) created by programmers not affiliated with Google or any other official organization, they are just folks who have some programming know-how and wanted to make their life - and others lives - easier. As such, many times these extensions can break as websites are updated, or may just fail as the web evolves.
You can disable these extensions (i.e. turn it off) or remove the extensions (i.e. delete it), depending on whether or not you want to try it at a later date, or just completely remove it from your life. It may not be a bad idea to go through your extensions once or twice a year just to do some "spring cleaning" of your browser!
So... how do I Disable or Remove an extension?
This is pretty simple -
- In Chrome, click on the puzzle piece icon to the right of the address bar, and select Manage extensions in the drop down menu that appears.
- You will see a list of extensions that have been loaded into Chrome. At the bottom of each extension's "card," you will see a Details button, a Remove button, and a toggle switch.
Click the Remove button if you would like to delete the extension from Chrome
Click the Toggle Switch on the right if you would like to just disable the extension for now. - For good measure, close out of Chrome and open it back up.
And that's about it. If you have any additional issues or questions, please don't hesitate to write a work order to your friendly neighborhood tech.
