Here's how to create or edit an assignment when using a Standards Based Report Card.
To create an assignment: click on Create in the top right corner and select Assignment in the drop down menu. The Create Assignment window appears.
To edit an assignment: click on Grading > Assignments and click the Pencil icon () to the right of the assignment you wish to edit.
There are four tabs at the top - Assignment, Students, Standards and Publish. When finished modifying the assignment, be sure to click one of the Save buttons at the bottom!
Assignment
- Classes - specify one or more classes that this assignment will be apart of. For elementary classroom teachers, this most likely won't be useful. But for subject area and specials teachers, you can create an assignment and associate it with all of your classes that are learning the same material.
- Assignment Name - Give the assignment a name that will be visible to you in the Gradebook, Parents, and Students.
- Category - Select the Category that this assignment best aligns with.
- Score Type - Select Collected Only from the drop down options.
- Due Date - Choose the date the assignment will be due.
- Description (optional) - Enter a description for what the assignment is about. This will be visible to Parents and Students.
Students
This screen will let you choose which students the assignment applies to. By default, it applies to everyone in the class. However for differentiation purposes, you could associate the assignment with only specific students. This is completely optional. To select specific students, click the Add/Remove Students button at the top and Check or Uncheck the students from the list.
Standards
This screen will let you choose the specific standards that are being evaluated in this assignment. Simply click the checkbox on the right next to the standards you wish to associate with the assignment. If editing an existing assignment, click the Add/Edit Standards button at the top to show all available standards and the checkboxes.
Publish
-
Publish Assignment - This will let you choose a timeframe as to when to publish the assignment to Parents and Students. Choices are as follows:
- Immediately - Assignment becomes visible to Parents and Students as soon as you click Save.
- On Specific Date - Lets you specify an exact date as to when to make the assignment visible (perhaps the date Report Cards are sent home).
- Days Before Due Date - Lets you choose the number of days before the Due Date you specified on the Assignment tab.
- On Due Date - The assignment will become visible on the Due Date you specified on the Assignment tab.
- Never - The assignment will never be seen by Parents or Students.
- Publish Scores - This option will let you publish the assignment while withholding the scores of the assignment.
