PowerTeacher Pro - Setting Up Term Weights

Modified on Thu, Sep 12, 2019 at 2:51 PM

In order for your Marking Period grades to calculate correctly, Term Weights need to be configured.  This must be done for each marking period (all 4 for yearlong courses) and each class you have.  You do not need to do anything for the Y1 grade - that calculation is handled at District level for all schools.

  1. To start head on over to your gradebook.

  2. Click Settings on the left, then Traditional Grade Calculations.

  3. Each class will be listed on the screen, and you can click on a class to expand the terms associated with that class.
    In the example below, I've clicked on "Math 7" and see each term for that class.
    I also see that "Y1" is set automatically to "Term Weighting" and there is no green check mark in the "Edit Calc" column, meaning I cannot change this calculation - it's been done at the District level.

  4. For each marking period, click on the pencil button in the "Actions" column to edit the calculation.  This brings up the calculation window for the marking period selected.
    This screen will list a row for each category of assignments and the weight associated with that category.
    If you need more rows (it defaults to one when nothing has been configured yet), click the "+" button in the right corner of the table - to the right of the "Percent" column.

  5. Select under "Type" the option "Category Weighting" and under "Attribute" select a category you will use with your assignments.  To the right of that, enter in the percentage of the category in the "Weight" column.
    For example, if I were to have the following weights...
    * Homework - 25%
    * Quizzes - 30%
    * Tests - 45%
    ...my screen would look like this:

  6. Click save at the bottom.

  7. Repeat steps 4-6 for each marking period in each class.
